Therapy for Teens

Teenagers carry more than most people realize. Therapy gives you a private, judgment-free space to make sense of it, without anyone telling you how you should feel.

Teen therapy is individual therapy designed around what is actually happening in your life: school pressure, social dynamics, family stress, anxiety, identity, and the particular experience of being a teenager in New York City. We use evidence-based approaches including CBT and ERP for anxiety and OCD, and we keep your sessions confidential from your parents unless there is a genuine safety concern.

Sessions are one-on-one with your therapist. This is your space, not your parents'. We start by getting to know you and what is going on, with no agenda beyond understanding what you actually need. We work toward whatever you want to work on, at a pace you control, and we keep things practical enough to be useful between sessions.

Teen therapy may be a good fit if you are:

  • Dealing with anxiety, OCD, or worry that is hard to turn off
  • Struggling with social pressure, friendships, or feeling like you do not belong
  • Navigating questions about identity: who you are, where you fit
  • Going through a hard stretch at home or in your family
  • Feeling low, unmotivated, or disconnected from things you used to care about
  • Needing somewhere honest to talk without it getting back to your parents
  • A completely private, confidential space that is entirely yours
  • A therapist who gets you and who you can relate to
  • Evidence-based help for anxiety, OCD, depression, and more
  • Practical tools you can actually use in your day-to-day life
  • Room to explore identity, relationships, and what you want, on your own terms
  • Telehealth available when school or schedule makes in-person sessions hard

Teen Therapy, answered

What you share in therapy is confidential. The exceptions are narrow and legal: if we are genuinely concerned about your safety or someone else's. For most of what you bring to sessions, including family, friendships, identity, and emotions, it stays between us. We go over this clearly at the start.

Yes. It is the most common way teenagers start. Sessions are yours, not your parents'. You set the agenda. Many teens who come reluctantly find, fairly quickly, that having their own space is more useful than they expected.

Not at all. You do not need to arrive with a clear issue or an agenda. We start by getting to know each other, and what comes up from there is usually exactly what needs to.

Yes. Anxiety and OCD are a core part of our practice. We use the gold-standard treatments, including ERP for OCD. We also work with depression, identity questions, family stress, and more.

Yes, anywhere in New York State. For many teenagers, especially those with packed schedules or who live outside Manhattan, telehealth is the most practical way to keep sessions consistent.

We typically start seeing teenagers from age 16. If you are younger, we are happy to consider it on a case-by-case basis. Just reach out and we can discuss whether it is a good fit.
