Family therapy brings members of a family together to improve communication, ease conflict, and adjust to change. We treat the family as a system: small shifts in how you relate to one another can create real, lasting relief for everyone.

We start by understanding each person’s view of what is happening and what they hope will change. Sessions create a structured, fair space where everyone can be heard, hard conversations stay safe, and the family practices new patterns together, with compassion and clear guidance.

Family therapy may help when:

  • Communication has broken down or become tense
  • A teen is struggling and it is affecting the whole household
  • The family is adjusting to divorce, loss, or a major change
  • Conflict between members keeps escalating
  • Roles and expectations need to be renegotiated
  • You want to strengthen connection before things reach a crisis
  • Calmer, clearer communication at home
  • Conflicts that get resolved instead of repeated
  • Each member feeling genuinely heard
  • Healthier roles and boundaries
  • Support through transitions and loss
  • A stronger, more connected family system

Family, answered

Yes, within the family system, with the usual legal exceptions for safety. We talk openly about how information is handled, especially with minors.

Individual therapy focuses on one person; family therapy focuses on the relationships between people. We sometimes recommend a combination.

Yes, for families in New York State, though for some families in-person sessions can be especially helpful early on.

Many families see meaningful change within a focused course of sessions. We review progress together and adjust as needed.
